Congratulations to Dr. Babak Baban, Associate Dean of Research, and Dr. Mahmood Mozaffari, Associate Chair of the Department of Oral Biology and Diagnostic Sciences, for receiving a patent for a new application of Glucocorticoid-induced leucine zipper protein (GILZ) peptide compositions and their methods of hair growth.
Growing out of their observations while working on a previous patent for the application of GILZ peptide compositions and their methods of use in wound healing, Baban and Mozaffari have successfully completed mouse models with both standard and genetically hairless mice. Both species experienced significant and long-lasting hair growth or growth improvement at the injection site of the compound.
Their work will continue into human trials in the future, and the goal is to translate this into clinical treatments for conditions such as alopecia and the cosmetic treatment of hair loss.
