Buchanan Named DCG Outstanding Faculty Member

Dr. Allison Buchanan (DMD, 2005), Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Department of Oral Biology and Diagnostic Sciences, was honored with The DCG’s Outstanding Faculty Award. Buchanan was selected by her dental faculty colleagues to receive the award at the AU Spring Celebration of Faculty Event. Her selection was the culmination of a month-long process of nominations from students, residents and faculty and a week-long voting opportunity by DCG faculty to choose one from among the four strong candidates.

Buchanan is a board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist. She earned a BS in Veterinary/Animal Health from Newberry College and her DMD from Augusta University and followed it with residency training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio that included an MS in Dental Clinical Sciences. She teaches at both the predoctoral and graduate levels and provides a cone beam computed tomography overread referral service for both local and remote practitioners. Her research interests include cone beam computed tomography and digital radiography.

Her service activities include multiple commitee appointments at the local and national levels, including with the American Dental Association. She was previously The DCG representative to the AU Faculty Senate, and currently serves on the editorial review board for the Journal of Oral Surgery Oral Medicine Oral Pathology Oral Radiology and of the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. She is a past chair of the DCG Faculty Senate.
