The DCG Class of 2028 recently volunteered with DCG alumni Dr. Charles Spicer (DMD, 2015) and Dr. Quynh Spicer (DMD, 2017) owners of Harlem Family Dental and Thomson Family Dental, to package and distribute hundreds of hygiene kits across the area.

“Class volunteers helped the Spicers to package the children’s kits and sorted the adult hygiene kits. We then took them to several food pantries and welfare organizations around Augusta where they’ll be given away to anyone who needs them,” said participating student Mikayla Morgenroth.

Community outreach is an important part of dental students’ training programs. As providers of oral health services, dentists play an important role in improving public health at the community and individual level. The DCG and AU encourage student community engagement as a way to gain broad clinical and professional experiences and to learn important values about how to care for diverse populations and impact Georgia’s public health.

Dr. Charles Spicer also serves as Georgia Dental Association (GDA) Eastern District President. The GDA is an organization of dentists committed to improving oral health in Georgia and continuously promoting the highest standards of dentistry through education, advocacy and professionalism.
