CMDA Volunteers with Mobile Dental Unit

The Christian Medical & Dental Association (CMDA) Dental Fellowship student group partners with Washington Heights Baptist Church in Thomson, Georgia, and the Georgia Baptist Mobile Health Ministry (GBHM) to provide dental care to underserved population in the GBHM’s three-chair mobile dental van.

Twenty-eight DCG students worked from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 4-5. Third and fourth-year students provided extractions, restorations and examinations. First and second-year students worked as assistants and rovers. Fifty-two patients were screened and 40 patients were treated with extractions and/or restorations. The church provided lunch and snacks for the students.

GBHM provides students with community service opportunities to provide dental care for the underserved population and increases their awareness of providing indigent care when they become dentists. Faculty supervisors were Dr. Greg Griffin and Dr. Van Haywood, with Dr. Carroll Hughes screening the first day.
