Communication majors create PSA ads for Georgia Cancer Center

Rachel Carman, communication major at Augusta University, acts in a PSA ad

For almost ten years, AU communication majors have collaborated with the Georgia Cancer Center to create student-produced cancer PSAs (public service announcements).

Each semester, a panel of professionals judges the student videos and chooses winners. This fall student PSAs focused on a campaign called “Think b4u Drink: Alcohol & The Cancer Link.” Judges chose three student videos for the awards,”Best Message,” “Harmonic Convergence,” and “Videography.”

Communication major Aenea Clark appears in the 2022 PSA “Breast Cancer”

Aenea Clark and Kimberlyn Ware won “Best Message” for their ad, “Breast Cancer.”

Rachel Carman and Mikaela Graf won “Harmonic Convergence” for their ad, “A Future Reflected.”

And Tyce Dukes and Liz Wright won “Videography” for their ad, “The Last Drink.”

Winning students can add the awards to their resumes and submit their videos to national contests. Recent students have had the chance to air their PSAs on local TV stations, and have even won national Telly awards for their work.
