The Augusta University Department of Communication will host a Spotlight on COMM. event on Friday, Sept. 27.
Assistant Professor Dylan Wilson will lead prospective students and their parents on a tour of campus. The tour will focus on key sites from Communication majors, including the TVC Lab in University Hall, the MAC Lab in Allgood Hall and the student publication offices in the JSAC.
The TVC Lab is a multimedia lab that includes television and video production capacity, as well as two podcasting studios. The lab is run by Jasmine Garcia, a graduate of the Communication program, with assistance from current Communication student Cody Robertson.
Professor Wilson is a visual communication professor who specializes in photojournalism and design. He is a free-lance photographer who shoots for the New York Times and the Daily Mail in England. His work for the Daily Mail was associated with the murder conviction of South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh. AU’s Wilson also has shot for Sports Illustrated and the New York Post.
The visitors will explore the various production operations in the TVC Lab, including podcasts The Sports Squad and Gamer Guild, as well as JagNews. This interdisciplinary experience will introduce students to a variety of multimedia tools that are state-of-the-art in today’s communication professions.
Communication graduates work in TV news, online newspapers, photography, sports writing and broadcasting, social media, health communication, public relations and marketing, government relations, podcasting and non-profit/museum communication.
Communication is a 33-hour major at AU that features five keystone courses and a capstone course in which students put together an E-portfolio. Professor Wilson teaches that capstone seminar (COMM 4970).
The tour will at the Benet House at 1;45 p.m. on Sept. 27.
