“As someone deeply invested in predoctoral education, I am especially excited for the opportunity to bring greater national visibility to the educational excellence and academic leadership of the Dental College of Georgia,” Cornelius said.

In her role as secretary, Cornelius will assist with leadership operations, including coordinating meetings, maintaining records and supporting member communications. She will also contribute to program planning and help strengthen engagement among educators focused on periodontal education.

“Through this role, I hope to contribute meaningfully to the future of periodontology as a specialty by advancing educational innovation, strengthening the role of periodontal training in comprehensive dental care, and supporting collaboration among educators nationwide,” Cornelius said.

The section promotes excellence in both predoctoral and advanced periodontal training, with a focus on emerging approaches to treatment planning, surgical techniques and evidence-based care. It also collaborates with related specialty organizations to strengthen academic and clinical standards across the field.

Cornelius’ election reflects the DCG’s continued leadership in advancing dental education and specialty training.
