DCG alumni named Best of Columbia County

First place in the Best Dentist category went to Myers Family Dental.

The readers of Columbia County Magazine recently voted on their favorite local businesses, from accountants to women’s boutiques, and the top three winners in both the Best Dentist and Best Orthodontist categories were dominated by Dental College of Georgia alumni.

First place in the Best Dentist category goes to Myers Family Dental, owned and operated by Dr. Alan Myers and Dr. Eliza Myers. Alan graduated from Augusta University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2006 and earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the DCG in 2010, making him a double Jag. Eliza earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the DCG in 2009.

Second place in Best Dentist went to Belair Dental Associates. The office includes Dr. Carmen Vaughn and Dr. Kristen Green, both DCG alumni. Vaughn earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 1993. Green earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 2018.

Third place in Best Dentist went to Jordan Family Dentistry, which includes Dr. Melissa Jordan and Dr. Taylor Brinson. Jordan earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the DCG in 2011 and Brinson completed a general practice residency with the DCG in 2021.

Third place in Best Dentist went to Jordan Family Dentistry.

In the category of Best Orthodontist, first place went to Trotter OrthodonticsDr. T. Barrett Trotter earned a Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the DCG in 1973, and completed a residency in orthodontics in 1981. Trotter’s son, Dr. Paul Trotter, also completed his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the DCG in 2010 and then returned to complete his specialized orthodontic certification in 2013.

Second place for Best Orthodontist went to Carter Orthodontics, owned and operated by Dr. David Carter. Carter earned a Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the DCG in 1988, and also received his certificate of orthodontics from the DCG in 1991.

And third place went to Powell Orthodontics, owned and operated by Dr. R. Steven Powell. Dr. Power earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Augusta University in 1977, earned a Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the DCG in 1981, and then completed an orthodontics residency in 1988. He is also a part-time assistant professor in the Department of Orthodontics.

Winners in each category are chosen by popular vote by the readers of Columbia County Magazine. Balloting is completed in the fall.
