The DCG joined colleagues from across Augusta University for the 2026 Costa Layman Health Fair, helping provide essential health services to seasonal farmworkers in Trenton, South Carolina.

DCG faculty and students provided dental screenings as part of an interdisciplinary team that included nursing, medicine, allied health and other university partners. The annual outreach gives students valuable experience caring for vulnerable patients while reinforcing the college’s commitment to service, community engagement and interprofessional education.

More than 125 AU faculty, residents, staff and students cared for an estimated 218 farmworkers, offering screenings, education and referrals in a collaborative effort that improves access to care for an underserved population.

The Costa Layman Health Fair, now in its 21st year, has become a model for rural health outreach and hands-on learning, demonstrating how collaboration across AU helps improve health outcomes beyond the clinic.
