On Thursday, April 25, the college unveiled DCGo, a groundbreaking initiative that embodies The Dental College of Georgia’s vision for the future. DCGo represents six core pillars that will guide our college towards excellence in academics, advanced education, research, community impact, patient care, and fostering a unified DCG culture. Concept 1: Oath (Academics)
DCGo emphasizes a holistic approach to dental education. We’re expanding the range of experiences offered to students, including the exciting launch of our Savannah Campus and the creation of enriching study abroad programs. We’re also investing heavily in the digital dentistry initiative, ensuring our graduates are at the forefront of technological advancements, while still able to address the needs of populations in more rural practice areas.
Furthermore, the expansion of our four-year professional development program with a dedicated Foundations Course will reinforce our commitment to shaping well-rounded professionals. This course will equip students with the knowledge and skills in Business, Ethics, Leadership, Community Outreach, and Wellness, preparing them not just for clinical excellence but also for successful careers and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Concept 2: Options (Advanced Education Residency Programs)
DCGo recognizes the importance of fostering exceptional specialists. We’re integrating cutting-edge technologies into every residency program, implementing an Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery/Doctor of medicine five-year dual degree program, and actively working to increase residency enrollment.
Moreover, DCGo envisions expanding our residency programs throughout Georgia, ensuring a wider pool of highly skilled dentists across the state.
Concept 3: Originate (Research)
Research is the cornerstone of innovation and progress in all sciences, and dentistry is no exception. DCGo prioritizes research excellence through initiatives like CERSI (Center for Excellence in Research Scholarship and Innovation) and SeDR (Southeastern Dental Research Symposium). We are also heavily invested in digital dentistry research and fostering international collaborations.
Concept 4: Outreach (Community Impact)
DCGo emphasizes the importance of giving back to our communities. We’re expanding our footprint by establishing additional clinic sites across Georgia, facilitating greater access to dental care for underserved populations. We’re also committed to fostering community engagement through partnerships with organizations and dentists throughout the state, and by establishing mentorship programs.
Concept 5: Obligation (Patient Care)
DCGo recognizes the critical role dentists play in ensuring oral health for all citizen of the state of Georgia. We’re actively working to increase access to dental care through various initiatives. Additionally, the proposed future establishment of a Personalized Care Clinic reflects our commitment to providing tailored treatment plans that cater to individuals by creating a place to train future dentists to care for those patients with special needs.
Concept 6: One (Culture)
DCGo thrives on inclusivity and celebrates individual success. We champion every member of the DCG Family – students, residents, staff, faculty, alumni, and friends. We believe that by fostering a supportive and collaborative environment where everyone feels valued, we can achieve even greater things together. The DCG will continue to invest in committee work that creates opportunities for communication across differences, exploring complementary perspectives and celebrating individuality.
The Future We Envision
DCGo paves the way for a future filled with exciting possibilities. We envision increased access to quality dental care across Georgia, with all pre-doctoral student experiences contributing to graduation requirements. We aim to significantly increase student enrollment and diversity of experiences, while actively engaging communities throughout the state. DCGo also fuels our aspirations to expand research opportunities and solidify the AU/DCG footprint as a leader in dental education and patient care.
