Dr. Elmasry with Representative Allen in Washington DC for AWRVO's Advocacy DayDr. Khaled Elmasry, Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Biology and Diagnostic Sciences, recently represented The DCG in Washington, D.C., for the Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (AWRVO) Advocacy Day. Dr. Elmasry met with Representative Rick W. Allen and the offices of Senator Jon Ossoff and Senator Raphael Warnock to discuss his research at The DCG and to advocate for robust, sustained, and predictable funding that will allow it to support important basic and clinical research that accelerates the development of life-changing cures and treatments.

Elmasry urged Congress to increase the funding 7.3 percent for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to allow the base budget of the NIH to keep up with the biomedical research and development price index, leading to a meaningful growth of 5 percent. For the National Eye Institute (NEI), Dr. Elmasry endorsed a 9 percent increase in funding.
