“Known for her warm hugs that she would randomly give.”

May 11, 1976 – February 14, 2023

Faculty member Dr. Jennifer Leigh Wright, a lecturer in Psychology, passed away on February 14, 2023, following an extended illness.

Dr. Wright earned bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and English from Augusta State University. She went on to earn a master’s degree in Psychology and a Doctor of Psychology degree from Georgia Southern University before returning to Augusta University as a lecturer. She received the Department of Psychological Sciences Outstanding Undergraduate Faculty Award in 2017.

Dr. Wright’s loss is felt throughout her department and the college. As a teacher, she was beloved by her students. She made sure that students felt safe in her office and that they could ask her any questions. Students knew because of her open-door policy and bubbly personality that they had a mentor and a friend they could rely on.

Her colleagues knew her as a bright light in the Department of Psychological Sciences, bringing color to the office figuratively with her sassy, irreverent humor and literally with the crochet hook she always had on hand. She was the go-to source for comedic relief in her department, a job her co-workers note she took seriously.

Among her greatest contributions to her workplace, though, were her hugs. Dr. Wright was known for giving the best hugs to anyone who needed them. She will be dearly missed.
