Keep building bridges

In 1998, Semisonic released a song called “Closing Time.” Perhaps the most meaningful line in that song is, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” While this quote did not originate with Semisonic and is most often attributed to Roman philosopher and statesman, Seneca, it really sums up the transformative nature of life. Whether talking about the life of a person, an organization, or even a university like Augusta University, new beginnings can be the source of innovation, focus, and energy.

We began this year with the launch of our strategic plan, Creating A Legacy Like No Other, which outlined three major goals:

  1. Reach an enrollment of 16,000 students by 2030.
  2. Achieve Carnegie Community Engagement Classification by 2026.
  3. Be ranked in the Top 60 universities for National Institutes of Health funding.

We have been laser-focused on advancing Augusta University toward achieving these goals in a way that has increased the strength of our supporters, stakeholders, faculty, and employees for the ultimate benefit to our students and patients.  From securing funding for scholarships, research, and academic curricula to the deployment of new community engagement programs and town and gown projects, our teams in External Relations are building bridges to support AU’s strategic plan.

With our sights set on the future, we are excited to embark on the upcoming year with renewed enthusiasm and a clear vision of our goals. We aspire to build upon our accomplishments, pushing boundaries and striving for excellence in all that we do. Guided by our shared values, we are eager to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead, fostering growth and making a positive impact in the lives of our students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.

With every beginning’s end and every resulting new beginning, I am reminded that we simply could not do what we do without the sacrifice and commitment of those who came before us and the steadfast support of all of you who continue to donate your time, talent, and treasures to Augusta University.

In this edition of The Bridge, we will explore the dynamic interplay between endings and beginnings. From inspiring stories of our alumni, students, and faculty to opportunities for growth, reinvention, and resilience; Augusta University is surely on a transformative journey of embracing this year with energy, hope, and transformation.
