JAGSAFE Classroom Secure devices are being installed in select Augusta University classrooms to provide instructors with a quick way to secure the classroom door from inside the room while allowing occupants to exit safely.
Where installed, the Classroom Secure button provides an additional security resource. Instructors may activate the button whenever they believe it is appropriate based on their individual security threshold, comfort level or assessment of the circumstances. The Classroom Secure button should be used when emergency instructions direct occupants to secure their classrooms.
How to Use the Classroom Secure Button
To activate the Classroom Secure function and secure the classroom door, lift the cover and press the red button. Occupants can still safely exit the classroom from inside.
Before leaving, turn the button to the right to deactivate the Classroom Secure function. Finally, confirm that the classroom door is unlocked for the next instructor and class.
Important Deactivation Notice
If you activate the button and leave the classroom without deactivating the Classroom Secure function, the classroom door will remain locked, preventing other instructors from entering the classroom to teach their courses.
Please remember to deactivate the Classroom Secure function before leaving your classroom.
Locked-Out Assistance & Awareness
If you find your classroom locked when you arrive to teach a course, contact the Augusta University Police Department at 706-721-2911.
Be aware, be prepared and be JAGSAFE.
When you enter your classroom, take a moment to determine whether a JAGSAFE Classroom Secure button is present. If one is installed, familiarize yourself with this safety resource before you need it.
