Ana Carolina Morandini, DDS, assistant professor in the Department of Oral Biology and Diagnostic Sciences and the Department of Periodontics, has been awarded the esteemed International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) 2023 Joseph Lister Award for New Investigators. This award recognizes young researchers engaged in original studies related to oral disease prevention or oral health promotion, with candidates representing various regions of the IADR, including North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa/Middle East and the Asian/Pacific region.
This prestigious accolade recognizes exceptional researchers within 10 years of their first academic appointment. Candidates must have conducted research during this period and be active full members of the IADR. Morandini was one of 10 international finalists who were invited to present their research at the IADR Annual Meeting. Presentations are judged based on originality, potential for public health impact, and scientific merit. The awards competition was created to recognize and reward young investigators with original research in oral disease prevention or oral health promotion. Her captivating presentation on “the role of CD73 in periodontitis” garnered significant attention, earning her first place in the competition. The award ceremony took place in Bogotá, Colombia, during the Opening Ceremonies of the 101st General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, coinciding with the 9th Meeting of the Latin American Region.
