Dr. Marshall Newman, Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) and Program Director for the OMFS residency program, has been accepted as a Fellow by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This prestigious honor recognizes Dr. Newman’s exceptional qualifications, surgical expertise and commitment to ethical practice.
The ACS is a renowned organization dedicated to advancing surgical care and patient outcomes, and it is the world’s largest organization of surgeons with more than 84,000 members. Fellowship in the ACS is a highly selective honor, requiring rigorous standards of education, training, professional qualifications, surgical competence and ethical conduct. By achieving this distinction, Newman joins a distinguished group of surgeons who have demonstrated excellence in their field.
To earn the FACS designation, surgeons must meet rigorous requirements, including graduation from an approved medical school, completion of advanced training in a recognized surgical specialty, board certification, and at least one year of practice. Before admission, surgeons must demonstrate ethical fitness and professional proficiency and receive approval from three-fourths of the college’s board of regents.

He earned his doctoral degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he was valedictorian.
