Summary

College of Nursing alumni and professors collaborate to publish a manuscript in the Journal of Doctoral Nursing Practice. The article specifically identifies management plans and educational materials as a way to improve the patient outcomes and satisfaction at clinics for pediatric menstrual bleeding disorders.

The College of Nursing (CON) is celebrating Kelly Tickle, DNP for publishing her manuscript in the Journal of Doctoral Nursing Practice. The article is her DNP project, Development of a Structured Management Plan and Educational Materials for a Multidisciplinary Pediatric Menstrual Bleeding Disorder Clinic.

According to Tickle’s article, 1% of U.S. females have a bleeding disorder that requires specific clinical care. Multidisciplinary clinics (MDCs) are known to have effective outcomes, with one of the first MCDs specifically for menstrual bleeding disorders opening in 2013. The objective of Tickle’s research was to identify components that would better support the care within her institution’s clinic, established in 2016.

Through management plans and educational materials,  patient knowledge and provider care can be improved and used across multidisciplinary clinics.

Tickle’s publication was a collaborative effort featuring various representatives of CON. Contributing author Margaret Gettis, DNP is a CON alumna and current DNP Program Advisory Board member. Both women work within various departments at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA).

Three of the article’s contributing authors are CON faculty members within the Doctor of Nursing Practice and Nursing Science departments. Assistant professor Priscilla Hartley, DNP, assistant professor Dawn Langley-Brady, PhD, and associate professor Thomas Joshua, PhD all lent their expertise to the project.

Publication is an important tenant in not only promotion and tenure efforts, but for contributing to the progression of the nursing profession. Tickle’s article is a testament to the excellence of CON’s graduates and the immense support of faculty members.
