Dr. Todd Schoenbaum, Professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences, was an invited speaker in the country of Monaco at the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) Annual Congress, one of the most influential gatherings in global implant dentistry.
Schoenbaum was part of the core team that presented findings from the Global Consensus for Clinical Guidelines (GCCG), a new international initiative focused on developing practical, evidence-based recommendations for complex dental implant treatments. His lecture centered on the rehabilitation of the edentulous maxilla (complete upper tooth loss), a clinically challenging condition affecting patients worldwide.
“It’s an honor to contribute to such a globally impactful project,” Schoenbaum said. “These guidelines will help clinicians deliver better, more predictable care for patients everywhere.”
The GCCG initiative brought together nearly 120 experts from 27 countries during a June 2025 meeting in Boston. Schoenbaum served as part of the core team responsible for guiding structured discussions, analyzing data and facilitating consensus on best practices. The result is a set of practical clinical guidelines designed to improve treatment consistency and enhance patient care worldwide.
“Dr. Schoenbaum’s invitation to speak at this major international event shows how our work at the DCG is making a difference far beyond our campus,” said Dr. Nancy Young, dean. “Our faculty, and the DCG as a whole, are helping shape how dentistry is practiced around the world. We’re proud to contribute research and clinical care that improves outcomes for patients in Georgia and beyond.”
The final recommendations and reports will be published in the esteemed journal, Clinical Oral Implants Research later this year.
