SNDA Hosts 25th Annual Impressions Day

The Dental College of Georgia chapter of the Student National Dental Association hosted the 25th annual Impressions Day event for prospective students interested in a dental career on February 17. More than 200 select high school and college students spent the day participating in mock interviews, tours and hands-on simulations.

The DCG Impressions Program was the first of its kind in the nation. The program, which is planned and executed by current dental students, is designed to provide mentoring, career exposure and support for students who are interested in the field with the goal of increasing the number of qualified applicants from groups that are historically underrepresented.

Current students shared their experiences, including useful resources, tips and tricks for scoring well on the Dental Admission Test, how to make an application stand out, how to apply for financial aid and scholarship support, and the DCG curriculum. Participants also had the opportunity to get hands-on experience in a dental lab by taking impressions and pouring casts.

Twenty-five years ago, this event was the first of its kind at any dental college in the nation. The DCG chapter of SNDA created the model for other colleges to use and it has grown to be so popular that registration for the approximately 200 spots for this year’s event filled within 48 hours of registration opening.

We are so proud of all of the students, faculty, staff, and volunteers who made this year’s event run so smoothly. A special shout-out goes to Stephanie Perry, DCG Director of Student Admissions and Diversity, for her mentorship of SNDA.
