Dr. Harry James Beecham, a 1974 graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, died Aug. 25.
He practiced medicine in Maryland and Pennsylvania where he also worked with the CDC as an Epidemic Intelligence Officer and was involved early in the original investigation and identification of Legionnaires Disease epidemic in Philadelphia. Upon joining the Navy in 1982, he learned to fly and continued his medical career, stationed in 15 countries throughout his 22 years of service. His extensive work in infectious disease, saving countless lives no doubt.
