Dental Screenings Return to Flea Market

DCG screening patients at Barnyard Flea Market

As part of its ongoing community engagement efforts, The DCG will once again offer free dental screenings at the Barnyard Flea Market. The screenings will be Oct. 28 and Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and are open to everyone. Walk-ins are welcome.

Under the supervision of DCG faculty, dental students will provide visual oral inspections to check for signs of dental or gum disease. Patients will be referred to a dental practice for cleaning, further assessment, or treatment as needed.

“We are always excited to be able to offer this valuable service to our community,” said Dr. Kim Capehart, Chair of the Department of General Dentistry at The DCG. “These screenings are an important way to promote oral health and identify potential dental problems early when they are most treatable. As the state’s only dental school, we are committed to improving the oral health of Georgians.”

In addition to providing a valuable service to the community, the free dental screenings are also an important learning experience for DCG students.

“These screenings allow our students to gain valuable hands-on experience and learn more about the importance of public health,” Capehart said. “We are grateful to the Barnyard Flea Market for providing us with this opportunity to serve our community.”
