Dr. Marshall Newman, Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, has been appointed Program Director for the Advanced Education residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) at Augusta University. Newman previously served as Interim Program Director.
As Program Director, Newman demonstrates strong leadership and expertise in the field. He will develop the didactic/clinical teaching program and supervise residents in the oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program. In addition, Newman will provide patient care to both pediatric and adult patients, participate in research and collaborative activities at The DCG, and ensure that the program maintains adherence to academic and clinical requirements of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) and the Council on Dental Education Accreditation.
The OMFS residency program provides dentists with the clinical experience and basic science foundation needed to select techniques for comprehensive oral, cranial, and facial rehabilitation.
Dr. Newman is a graduate of the The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with additional education at the University of Glasgow. He earned his doctoral degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he was valedictorian. He completed OMFS residency training at MUSC and two subsequent fellowships: Advanced Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and Trauma in Portland, Oregon and Pediatric Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida.
He holds two board certifications from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a fellow of both the American Academy of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Newman joined The DCG faculty in 2020.
