Dr. Kim Capehart, chair for the Department of General Dentistry in The Dental College of Georgia, has been appointed Interim Assistant Dean for Clinical Compliance, effective Sept. 25.
Capehart will retain his position as department chair while a search launches for a permanent replacement for the interim position.
As interim assistant dean, Capehart will be responsible for making sure that the Dental College of Georgia (DCG) complies with all state and federal regulations. This includes developing and implementing policies and procedures, conducting audits, and taking corrective action when necessary. The Dean also works with other parts of Augusta University Health, such as the predoctoral and dental residency programs and the faculty practice, to ensure that they are also in compliance.
DCG Dean Nancy Young is confident in Capehart’s appointment: “Dr. Capehart is a capable, creative leader who builds collaborative coalitions among peers and attends to students’ education and professional development. We are enthusiastic about his potential impact in this position,” she said.
Capehart also serves as chair of the DCG Student Affairs Committee, faculty advisor for the American Student Dental Association chapter, president of the Eastern District Dental Society of the Georgia Dental Association, test constructor for the Integrated National Board Dental Examination, site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation and a journal reviewer for five different journals. He was the 2018 recipient of the Judson C. Hickey Outstanding Faculty Award.
Capehart is a graduate of Marshall University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and of West Virginia University with a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He has also completed a Master of Business Administration and Management from Regis University and a Doctorate of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
