Community Outreach Volunteers at Carnival & Health Fair

On Sept. 14, DCG Community Outreach Programs (COP) participated in the annual Circus Carnival & Health Fair hosted by the Augusta Partnership for Children, Inc. to celebrate the start of their children’s week.

The week-long celebration focused on health promotion and giving back to children and families within the CSRA. Multiple vendors and organizations volunteered and contributed to the success of this event. The DCG COP provided over 300 families with dental hygiene kits filled with toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, toys and stickers. Dental students – Keyanna Ennis, Deana Kukhianidze, Skylar Mizell, Rubani Pannu, Lee Beard and Matthew Slocum – educated the community about oral health and hygiene information and enjoyed demonstrating brushing techniques with the kids. Dr. Michael Milano provided pediatric oral screenings for 10 children and informed parents about their children’s oral health and possible treatment options.

Thanks to the wonderful efforts from our volunteer faculty, staff and students! We are able to refer nearly 20 families to the DCG for their dental needs. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Ketarya Hunt Bass, DCG Director of Community Outreach Programs and Steve Huston, Oral Health Outreach Coordinator, for their leadership and community engagement.
