DCG volunteers joined a family fun event to bring awareness to oral health care, provide oral health education and screenings at Bethel Community Church. The collaboration was organized by Ketarya D. Hunt Bass, DCG Director of Community Outreach Programs, and second-year student Breanna Mcintosh. They were supported by second-year dental students Abdullah Muzeyen and Madelyn Byrne.
DCG Community Outreach Programs, through HRSA grant sponsorship, supplied the event with oral health care kits for all age groups, educational material and sugar free candies/tooth-shaped lollipops. The DCG pediatric dental team offered free oral health screenings and oral health education. Volunteers included Dr. Michael Milano, Dr. Tara Schafer, and dental pediatric residents Drs. Anna Phillips, Brooke Vinturella, Katlyn Barlowe and Savanah Price.
Approximately, 95 adults and children stopped by the DCG table to engage with the energetic group to talk, learn, laugh and grab a few treats. Nearly 20 individuals signed up to become potential patients!
The free community health fair was planned to promote early detection of cancer, diabetes & heart disease, by One Dollar At A Time Productions, LLC. The health fair expo also offered free health screenings, flu vaccines, high blood pressure checks and lively entertainment including Zumba dancing, singers, food, games and many vendors.
