One of the most challenging and rewarding things I ever did was travel to Germany and work as a TA for a Comparative Politics Course. I knew one person in my new city. I decided to teach my classes in German, which I had studied, but wasn’t fluent in. I was pushed far outside of my comfort zone. I endured culture shock, and homesickness. I cried on multiple occasions. But I also learned that I loved teaching in higher education, and that I wasn’t terrible at it (even in German)!! I made lifelong friends. And the entire experience helped me believe that I can do just about anything I set my mind to.
