Resident and Student News Research and Table Clinic Day Celebrates Innovation For 33 years, the annual Research and Table Clinic Day at the DCG has celebrated excellence in innovation and discovery. This year’s event on March 9 began with the 7th Annual David H. Pashley Lecture, given by Dr. Fadi AL Farawati, Assistant Professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences, entitled, “Digital Dentistry: The Bridge Between Dental Education and Private Practice Application.” The nine senior dental students graduating with distinctions in research were announced, along with the two faculty receiving Early Career Research Grants. Attendees could choose from 70 presentations in 11 interactive virtual poster sessions showcasing the scientific research and innovative clinical treatments practiced at the Dental College of Georgia, the AU dental hygiene program and the Fort Gordon Dental Periodontics Residency program. Of these, 49 were entered into the optional competition categories, including four from the Fort Gordon program. The afternoon concluded with an award and recognition ceremony. Justin Mackert (L) and Vanessa Villalobos (R) (DMD, ’21), Prosthodontics residents, presented at the 2022 American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics annual meeting in February in Chicago, Illinois. Villalobos presented “Evaluation of zirconia cleaners for decontaminating zirconia dental ceramics,” and Mackert presented “Five-year survival of metal-acrylic fixed complete hybrid dental prosthesis: A retrospective study.” Villalobos was mentored by Drs. Jimmy Londono and Franklin Tay, and Mackert was mentored by Drs. Todd Schoenbaum and Darshanjit Pannu. LikeLike (0) Faculty Share Cases That Warmed Their Hearts The Dental College of Georgia chapter of the Student Professionalism and Ethics Association (SPEA) hosted three DCG faculty for the annual “Cases that Warmed our Hearts” presentation. Dr. Prajakta Shreeram Kulkarni, Assistant Professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences, Dr. Van Haywood, Professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences and Dr. Mohamed Meghil, ‪Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics, presented on complex patient care in which the end results were highly regarded by both the dentist and the patient.
